ICE Documents From the Beginning of the Trump Administration
Five weeks into the Trump era, with Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) going into overdrive, the top officials of the California Legislature made a FOIA request. They asked ICE for information about its new policies and activities, specifically:
On August 24, 2017, I filed a piggyback FOIA request, asking ICE to send me the same documents they would eventually send to the California legislators.
I recently received a 280-page PDF containing a mélange of documents: internal emails, a PowerPoint presentation, a court filing, a fact sheet, a memo from then-Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly, and lots of pages withheld in full. It’s posted above, with an excerpt below.
