Some updates, installing, uninstalling, and setting changes are enough to eliminate this Conexant audio error message. Among them, driver update, rolling back driver, high definition audio, default sound, audio troubleshooter, and disabling enhancement are effective.

Solution 1: Stay Updated
Devices with Conexant audio drivers can have issues, especially after any update. Conexant does not provide drivers on its official website. So, many go for third-party websites to download it, creating hassle.
Download the latest Conexant driver package from your brand’s official support website. For example, Lenovo support, Dell support, HP support, etc.
How To Update The Conexant Audio Driver Manually?
- Hit the Windows key + R together to open a Run
- Type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter to open Device Manager.
- Double-click on the Sound, video, and game controllers option
- Right-click on the Conexant option and press on Update Driver Software
- Press on Browse my computer for driver software.
- Find and select the folder where you kept the installed Conexant driver
- Click on OK.
- Hit the Next button
How To Update The Drivers Automatically?
If you do not want to do it manually, you can take help from secondary applications. These applications will update all the outdated drivers on your PC.
- Download Driver Easy and install it
- Run the application
- Hit the Scan option
- It will show you all the outdated drivers
- You can select the drivers you want to update
- You can also select Update All
DriverFix is another application with the same service. You can scan and update the drivers by simply running this application.
Solution 2: Perform A Uninstalling
You need to uninstall the Conexant audio driver. You may ask how the audio will work if I uninstall the driver.
After uninstalling the driver, you need to restart the PC. After rebooting, your PC will automatically reinstall the driver and work fine.
How To Uninstall The Conexant Audio Driver?
- Hit the Windows key + R together to open a Run
- Type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter to open Device Manager.
- Double-click on the Sound, video, and game controllers option
- Select the Conexant SmartAudio HD option
- Hit the Uninstall option and restart your PC

Solution 3: Fix Some Settings
If the updating and reinstalling do not work, you have to change some settings to fix the problem.
Disabling audio enhancement, disabling automatic driver updates, and changing the default sound format will solve the Conexant audio error.

- From the right of your toolbar, right-click on the speaker icon
- Select the Sounds option
- Go to the Playback bar
- Select the device you are using
- Press on the Properties option at the bottom

- Hit Apply, then Ok

- Go to your Control Panel
- Click on the System and Security option
- Select the System option from the list

- Press the Device Installation Settings button.

- Hit the Save Changes button

How To Change The Default Sound Format?
- From the right of your toolbar, right-click on the speaker icon
- Now select the Playback Devices option
- Double-click on the default playback device
- Press on the Advanced bar
- Under the Default, Sound Format tab will find a list of bitrate
- Find the one that suits you
Generally, 44 kHz is set by default. 48 kHz is suitable for music creation, audio, and video. You have to choose the one that works fine with your device.
Solution 4: Run Some Software Change
Some inbuilt software on your PC can solve the Conexant audio problem. Audio troubleshooter, CxUtilSvc, and MSConfig are such operations. All you have to do is to run them.
How To Run The Audio Troubleshooter?
- Go to the Settings option from the Start menu
- Then select the Updates & Security tab
- Select the Troubleshoot option from the list
- Find the Recording Audio option
- Click on the Run the troubleshooter tab
The application will scan any faults with your audio and troubleshoot them. Also, you can follow their instruction and troubleshoot the problem manually.
How To Start CxUtilSvc Service?
- Press Windows and R keys together
- In the Run dialog, type service.msc and hit Ok
- Find CxUtilSvc from the list and double-click on it
- Tap on the Start button
- Change the Startup Type option to Automatic
- Hit Apply and Ok
- Restart your computer
How To Run MSConfig Tool?
- Hit the Windows key + R together to open a Run
- In the search box, type MSConfig
- Open the Boot tab
- Select the Advanced option
- Check the box beside the Maximum memory
- Now set the value to 3072
- Set it to 4096; if 3072 is not available
- Restart your PC
Solution 5: Do Some Checkings
If the solutions mentioned above fail to work, you need to do some hardware and sound settings checks. These are not such complicated actions to take.
Usually, when an audio device does not work, we take these basic actions initially. For our slightest eye rolling, these can be a mistake.
Check The Sound Settings Of Your PC
Check if your volume is audible. Ensure the sound on your pc is not muted. Increase the volume to see if the connected devices work properly or not.
Check if the connected audio device is selected as the output device on the sound settings. Select both input and output devices correctly.
Check The Hardware
Check if any of the cables are damaged. A twisted, worn-out, or damaged wire can cause audio and sound settings trouble.
Also, check if the audio devices are connected to your PC through the correct cable and port. Do not mix up the ports with the cables.
Solution 6: Going Back
Rolling back the driver or rolling back the windows means returning to the previous software version.
You did not update your software to return to the previous version. So, I kept the rollback option as the final solution. If any solutions do not work, we have nothing to do except return.

- Hit the Windows key + R together to open a Run
- Type devmgmt.msc and hit the Enter
- Double-click on the Sound, video, and game controllers option
- Right-click on the Sound Driver
- Tap on the Properties and then the Driver
- Press on the Rollback Driver option
- Now hit Ok
How To Roll Back The Windows?
- Go to Settings on your computer
- Press on the Updates & Security option
- Tap on the Recovery option from the list
- Press on the Get started tab under Go back to the previous version
