ICE’s Detainee Death Notification Letter
>>> While reading through Immigration & Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) website, I saw references to a standard “condolence letter” sent to the next-of-kin of people who die in ICE custody. But the letter itself wasn’t online.
Under FOIA, I asked for it. I was pretty sure that it wouldn’t contain anything unusual or questionable (it doesn’t). It’s simply important for us to be able to see the actual letter that the US government sends to the grieving families of people who die while being imprisoned by ICE.
